Don Sankey
Born and raised in Toronto, I received my formative education in Mississauga. I attended Lakeshore Teachers' College graduating in 1970. My formal education consisted of receiving my B.A. in 1974 and my Master of Education in 1981. Both degrees were granted by the University of Toronto.
I began my teaching career in Mississauga at the age of 19 and after 5 years, I
moved to the Grey/Bruce area in 1975. Following a number of successful years in the classroom, I entered the field of school administration. My career has been a rewarding one which has included a number of schools and communities.
My interest in photography began at an early age. I had always been interested in
the outdoors and that love of the environment shaped my interest both in education
and photography.
I have studied photography as an interest for well over 30 years. I grasped an
understanding of photography by attending workshops and courses offered by
community colleges or professional photographers. I continue to grow as photographer through studying the works of both current and past professional photographers.
My personal beliefs about photography stem from my relationship with nature.
The sense of wonder that is evident everywhere fuels my passion to compose my
work. I strive to capture in my photographs the essence of light and how it interacts
with our environment.
The Grey/Bruce region is rich in diversity of topography, flora and fauna. I
thoroughly enjoy the challenge of composing photographs that reflect the beauty
and depict the uniqueness of the area.
In addition to my landscape and nature photography, I enjoy photographing
weddings and family groupings. In particular, I thoroughly enjoy capturing
wedding memories of former students.
At all times, I firmly believe in utilizing professional equipment. This begins with
professional cameras, lenses and high quality professional film. The final step is
working with a professional lab that specializes in quality processing and
enlargements.
My composed prints are professionally matted and framed to enhance the
photograph. My framed photographs have been widely accepted and have provided
art decor for many customers.
As my career in education draws to a close, I look forward to pursuing more the
outdoors and the art of photography.
