Berend Dekker
Berend retired in 2003, after working 33 years in the Corporate Real Estate Division of a large Insurance Company. After retirement he, his wife and three cats moved to the Markdale area. He decided to explore one of his many hobbies, woodworking, in depth. He attended a number of woodworking courses mainly for the purpose of learning the
craft of woodworking. However, he soon focussed on the
art of woodworking. Band Saw Box Art kindles his creative skills and he really enjoys selecting the color and grain patterns of the wood. He uses both local woods as well as exotic woods for accents such as drawer pulls. In addition to the Band Saw Art Boxes, Berend continues to make other objects such as tables, book cases, garden planters, birdfeeders, bird houses (including a 50 room Purple Martin hotel), children's toys (train sets), ornaments, and jewellery boxes.
